TV server

Build your own TV server

Building your own IP TV server has several advantages:

  • We only need one coaxial cable connected to the server tuner, which reduces signal losses
  • Allows easy access to any device inside or outside our local network - both recordings and live channels

📡 Quick example:

Imagine one TV server box in a corner of your home. Everyone in the house - and even outside if you want - can then watch live TV, recorded shows, or schedule new recordings — on whatever device they like — no cable boxes needed.

The easiest way to create a TV server is through an Enigma2 receiver with FBC (full band capture) tuner, which, by having 8 demodulators, allows you to tune 8 different frequencies at the same time.

With an Enigma2 receiver you just need to tune the channels and you will have your personal IPTV server up and running. Through the web interface create a list of favorite channels and then you can use the list link in your favorite IPTV player.

The other way is through external DVB tuners and TVHeadend installed on a mini PC, or even Amlogic box that has CoreELEC operating system.

We can build a TV server with the terrestrial signal from our Internet operator using a DVB-C/T tuner, or even with a satellite dish using a DVB-S2X tuner.

Here are some recommended orbital positions:

The ideal is to point a satellite dish at Hotbird (13º East) and with a monoblock unicable LNB, we can receive at the same time another orbital position that is 6º away (Astra or Eutelsat).

If we opt for the Astra and Hotbird duo, we have access to thousands of channels around the world.
